Proposed Multi-Academy Trust Centurian MAT

Update on Multi-Academy Trust Application

On Thursday 1st June 2023, the Regional Director for the North East, Katherine Cowell, and her Advisory
Board, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education, approved our joint application for the five schools in
the North Tyneside area to become academies as part of a new MAT, to be known as the Centurion
Multi-Academy Trust.

Following the end of our formal consultation process we can confirm that four schools have decided to proceed
with the conversion process. We aim to be fully converted into a Multi-Academy Trust by January/February
2024.

The schools are listed below:
Battle Hill Primary School
Denbigh Community Primary School
Hadrian Park Primary School
Spring Gardens Primary School

As Centurion Multi-Academy Trust, our vision is to build a shared learning community in which children, young
people, staff and parents discover their talents, realise their potential, and develop a passion for learning that
endures throughout their lives.

We will adopt the following strapline which is underpinned by our visions and values:
‘Leading Learning, Leading Ambition, Leading Success For All’
Appointment of a Chief Executive Officer
As a Multi-Academy Trust, the Centurion must appoint a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) whose role will be to
provide a crucial link between our schools and a new Board of Trustees.

Our CEO has a critical role: they are accountable for providing strategic leadership and direction for the Trust
and its schools, bringing to life the vision and aims set by the Board, in line with the Trust’s values.
We will update you on the appointment of the post, once the recruitment process has been completed.

What happens next?
Our schools will now move to the next stage of academy conversion. This work will include the instruction of
solicitors and formal adhering of information and data for the conversion.
A Shadow Board, which is made up of proposed Members and Directors, will work with individual schools and
their Governing Bodies to design and set up models and structures for the future. This will include a formal
Scheme of Delegation, which will set out the lines of accountability, monitoring and decision making within the
Trust.
All of our schools are committed to working with governors, staff and unions and informing parents, carers and
the wider community throughout this and every stage of the process.

We will continue to share information, via links on our school websites, throughout the process in a timely
manner, but if you have any further comments or questions, please contact your school’s Head Teacher in the
first instance.

We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their ongoing support as we embark on this new and
exciting journey.

Yours sincerely,
