Art & Design

We are extremely proud and privileged to hold a gold Artsmark Award in recognition of our Arts and Music Education. Take a read of some of our amazing feedback from the Arts Council.

"Can we come and play at your school, please?"

"You clearly have a strong, long-term commitment to arts and culture which is having measurable effects on staff and pupils."

"All pupils can access a broad, established and stretching range of arts and cultural provision through work with local arts and cultural organisations in school and on visits outside the classroom and through extra-curricular activities, leading to effective showcasing opportunities within school and the local community."

"Artsmark has been used as a school improvement tool, and to foster cultural capital and better mental health within pupils. "

We have developed a number of partnerships with cultural hubs and art industries to enhance our provision.

Art at Hadrian Park Primary School

At Hadrian Park we highly value the Arts and teaching creativity. We provide visual, tactile and sensory experiences as a way of understanding and responding to the world. We enable children to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is to remain an artist once they grow up.” – Pablo Picasso

We utilise sketch books to record observations, practise skills and develop confidence. Each sketch book is unique and reflects the child’s personality and artistic development. We teach technical skills and allow our children to confidently express themselves in a range of visual forms.

“If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.” – Edward Hopper

Our curriculum has been inspired by famous artists from all eras and cultures. We constantly evaluate and innovate our curriculum to ensure artists are diverse, relevant and meaningful to the children.

“To be an artist is to believe in life.” – Henry Moore

Pupils are encouraged to evaluate and improve their work using artistic language. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and assess their own work and the work of their peers. We want children to be proud of what they have achieved and to see the value in what they have produced.

“Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it.” – Salvador Dali
