SEND

Welcome & Vision

At Hadrian Park Primary School, our mission is to create an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their full potential. We all believe that what we don’t know now, we just don’t know yet!”— we embrace a growth mindset and celebrate diversity as a strength.

Our SEND provision reflects these core values:

  • Respect and Equality: Every child has the right to access high-quality education and participate fully in school life.
  • Collaboration and Community: We work in partnership with families, pupils and professionals to co-produce solutions that meet individual needs.
  • Ambition and Resilience: We believe all children can succeed with the right support, and we strive to remove barriers to learning.
  • Empathy and Care: We listen to children’s voices and ensure their well-being is at the heart of every decision.

Through these principles, we aim to empower every learner, fostering independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

How We Identify & Support SEND

  • Referral & assessment pathway: Starts with teacher observations, parent concerns, diagnostic tools, and SENCO involvement.
  • Regular progress monitoring: Includes meetings with parents and pupils, data tracking and review of intervention effectiveness.
  • Multi-agency collaboration: Engaging health, speech & language, or educational psychologists where needed.

Graduated Approach

Our provision is aligned with the school’s growth-focused vision:

  1. Quality First Teaching – inclusive classroom strategies.
  2. Targeted Interventions – Wave1,  2 & 3 support for identified needs (wave 1 – in class support, wave 2- out of class support, wave 3- external agency support).
  3. EHCP / Specialist Provision – for students with significant and enduring SEN.

Curriculum & Environment

  • Differentiated learning plans and accessible resources in all subjects.
  • Adaptations in the physical environment (e.g., quiet zones, sensory equipment).
  • Commitment to helping every child “learn together,” no matter their starting point.

Progress & Outcomes

  • SEND pupil progress data is tracked rigorously.
  • Success stories and measured growth are shared with parents and Governors.
  • Adjustments to interventions are made based on review outcomes.

Partnerships

  • Parent/carer involvement: through termly review meetings, co-produced learning plans, SEND support events and welcoming meetings for new SEND families.
  • Pupil involvement: their views are collected for all significant meetings and planning.

North Tyneside Dyslexia Friendly School

Hadrian Park was extremely proud to be awarded the North Tyneside Dyslexia Friendly School in July 2022. This is awarded to schools who can demonstrate an inclusive ‘dyslexia friendly’ whole school approach in supporting pupils with Literacy difficulties. We will hold this award until the Summer of 2027 when we will need to reapply.

All children who attend Hadrian Park Primary School are unique and special. It is the duty of all members of staff to recognise and nurture the strengths and talents of every child. We strive to help every child develop their full potential academically, socially and spiritually. A recent pupil voice survey found 100% of children with additional needs felt safe in school and that their needs are being met.

This page gives information about how we support children with Special Educational Needs. If you would like any further information please contact Miss Gibson, Headteacher or Miss Beetham (maternity)/Miss Loizou, SENDCO through the School Office – 0191 917 0900.

Hadrian Park Primary is a fully inclusive school where every child is valued. We ensure that all pupils achieve their potential personally, socially, emotionally, physically and educationally in a caring environment.  We recognise that pupils with special educational needs and disabilities may fall into one or more of the following areas of need:

1. Communication and interaction

2. Cognition and learning

3. Social, mental and emotional health

4. Sensory and/or physical

Your support for your child’s education is crucial to their progress. Please tell us if there are any adjustments we need to make to help you support your child, for example: letters in large font; letters in different languages; wheelchair access; explaining things over the phone; a discussion with a school colleague of the same gender etc.

Local Offer

Local Authorities have a duty to publish a Local Offer, setting out in one place information about provision they expect to be available in their area across education, health and social care for children and young people in their area who have SEN or are disabled, including those who do not have EHC (Educational Health Care) plans.
