5 Golden Rules

Our Rules

The school has behaviour and anti-bullying policies and pupils are taught about them in PSHE lessons and assemblies.

We have high expectations and good behaviour is rewarded through our rewards for all scheme.  We have 5 Golden Rules:

* WE ARE KIND AND HONEST

* WE LISTEN AND COMMUNICATE WELL

* WE RESPECT AND TAKE CARE OF ALL PROPERTY

* WE HAVE A GROWTH MINDSET

* WE BEHAVE IN A WAY THAT IS SAFE

Understanding Our Golden Rules, British Values and Protected Characteristics

We have created this image to help children develop a clear and age‑appropriate understanding of the rules within school and how these link to British Values and Protected Characteristics. It supports our aim of helping children grow into respectful, responsible and confident citizens.

The image brings together our Golden Rules with the core British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance. By seeing how these ideas connect, children can better understand why rules exist, how they keep everyone safe, and how they help us treat one another fairly.

Through simple language and visual prompts, the image encourages pupils to:

  • Be kind, honest and respectful
  • Listen to others and communicate well
  • Look after people, property and the wider community
  • Develop a positive attitude to learning and challenges
  • Understand boundaries and make safe choices

The image also introduces children to Protected Characteristics in a sensitive and inclusive way. This helps them recognise and value differences, understand that everyone deserves respect, and learn that discrimination of any kind is not acceptable. By exploring these ideas early, children develop empathy, tolerance and an appreciation of diversity.

Overall, this resource supports our wider curriculum and personal development work by:

  • Reinforcing high expectations for behaviour
  • Promoting equality, fairness and respect
  • Helping children understand their rights and responsibilities
  • Preparing pupils to play a positive role in society

We hope this visual resource helps children make meaningful links between the values we teach in school and how they behave as members of our school community and beyond.
